A Utah adventure in less than 72 hours

Our weekend in Utah was definitely an adventure! Roelf grew up camping with his family and was insistent on taking me camping for the first time. He really wanted to make sure I enjoyed it so that I would go again, so he pulled out all the stops!

We chose the Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park to camp in. This is in Kanab, Utah. It was such a nice campground and the best part was that you could check out sandboards and sleds and hit the dunes! If you have never been sandboarding, do it. It’s just like skiing but without the snow, what could be better? We had a blast. Also, if you’re into photography, the dunes make a really nice backdrop for pictures.

If you end up staying in Kanab, you’re only about an hour and 15-minute drive from Zion National Park. This was Utah’s first national park. It’s incredible. Even just the drive into the park is worth making the trip for. You could spend days here exploring all the trails and taking in all the views.

We did the Grotto Trail and part of the Lower Emerald Pool Trail. Both were stunning! We then took the canyon shuttle to be able to see more of the park. Once again, would love to spend more time here. So much history and wildlife to see, yet so little time.

Since we camped we did most of our own cooking this trip. But, I can’t make this post without mentioning the cutest little retro restaurant we found along the way. The Thunderbird Restaurant caught our attention with its signage. You could just tell it was going to be good! They call themselves the home of Utah’s famous “Ho-Made Pies.” Of course, we had to try one! We had apple pie and it was delicious! A great find for sure.

Such a fun weekend trip! We hope to be able to go back again soon and see more.

If you have any more recommendations or try one of ours out, let us know in the comments!
